Uses for Dycem around the home

Here at Dycem, we love to hear how people use our non-slip products to enhance their daily lives.

At the APTA conference and Expo, held in Indianapolis last month, we met hundreds of Physical Therapy professionals who gave us some of their most creative uses for the Dycem range.

We were blown away by their overall enthusiasm for Dycem and its myriad applications. And so here for you now are some of their best responses to the question, “how do you use your Dycem at home and on the go?”

Dycem around the Home

“I use Dycem to help positioning in seats.” – Trisha

“I use Dycem with my home patients and place it on shelves, so that medication and water doesn’t fall.” – Jennifer

“When I’m sewing, the machine wants to glide away due to vibration, but if you put Dycem under it, it helps the machine stay in place when sewing.”

”I have wooden stairs in the house and I have a dog who won’t go down them. I use the roll of Dycem and pre-cut the strips to fit the stair thread.  Now the dog goes up and down the stairs. It’s a surprising use, but it works.”

“We use Dycem to hold plates steady, especially useful for people with one hand.” -Vicky Keller

“I use the Dycem squares for when a child is sitting on a slippery surface, like in those high chairs that you find in restaurants.”

“I use Dycem for keeping toys and objects in place on top of tables and benches.”

“I carry Dycem in my trunk; I use it to help with feeding.”

“I use Dycem to help with grip and opening jars.”

“I use Dycem all the time, particularly to put under switches, or switch activated toys.”- Lillian Grey

“My granddaughter uses it on the tables so she doesn’t spill her drink.”- Shirley

“I use Dycem underneath dining room chair legs, in order to prevent it from slipping while my child is getting up to sit.”

“We currently use Dycem on the lap tray of a young man for his computer, so it doesn’t slide when he’s using it.”

Dycem on the Go

“I use Dycem in between the wheelchair and cushions, to keep clients from sliding.” – Diane Wilson

“I use Dycem on wheelchairs, on top of their cushions, to help people stay in their wheelchair and not fall out.” – Cas

“I’m using Dycem with a variety of people post-stroke. Right now I use it for my mother who has a walker and who has problems carrying her food to the table.”– Anne

“I work with patients with MS, I use the Dycem for wheelchair cushion positioning along with using it for utensils and plates, positioning for people who have difficulty with those devices.”

“I use Dycem on a grocery cart, to help stabilise the hand so it doesn’t slip off.”

“I use Dycem for positioning students in their desks if they have a tendency to slip down. I also use it for writing utensils on their desks.”

“I use Dycem with young people, I cut a tracing of their feet out and it serves as a marker for where to keep their feet underneath their tables. So they are learning proper positioning, keeping their feet still and not kicking their neighbours.” – Heidi
